1/10/25 Fishing Report
Here’s the latest fishing report from Captain Steve Solheim on beautiful Lake of the Woods!
The New Year is here and the bite has been consistently strong. Our shacks are ranging from 27-31 feet of water, with some guides testing the mud at 32 feet or deeper. Fishing in my area has been extremely consistent with solid limits of walleye and sauger in equal proportion. I’m also seeing a good number of walleyes in the protective slot, with some guides seeing a few trophy sized walleyes.
I recommend a set line with a Forage Minnow Spoon or a plain red hook. On my jigging line, I go with a glow Buck Shot Spoon or a Jigging Rap. It’s crucial to stay active jigging this line banging the bottom and working suspended fish when located on electronics. My jigging line is often used to call in fish, and when the bite is neutral, very often they will hit the set line. For colors, I like perch on my Jigging Rap and glow chartreuse on my Buck Shot Spoon.
We are still running our light equipment, as we need more snow to run the big track vehicles. The ice is in great shape and we’ve got cold temperatures ahead to keep making more. Good luck! ~ Captain Steve
