This is Captain Tim “Wingnut” Hill with your latest ice update from Lake of the Woods. Our team has been putting in the miles, checking ice conditions to ensure safe travel to fishable areas. By the end of today, we established a staked trail with 11 inches of solid, safe ice leading out to productive fishing grounds a couple of miles offshore. We’re excited to share that over the next few days, we’ll be pulling houses out to start fishing with our customers on Friday.

Please keep in mind that we did encounter a few areas of unsafe ice, which is exactly why we continually monitor conditions and stake our trails. Safety is always our top priority. As always during early ice, we advise using extreme caution and highly recommend fishing with an outfitter. Please check back for more ice updates on our Facebook page.
