2/25/25 Fishing Report

Here’s our latest fishing report from Captain Steve Solheim on beautiful Lake of the Woods!

March is just around the corner, and the guides are already sporting shirt sleeves and ball caps! Our sucker tank is full and northern pike fanatics from all around the region are ready for action. Fishing has been challenging as it can be in February, but our reef guides and mud areas adjacent to the reefs have been producing strong numbers of walleye, sauger and perch. In addition, the number of trophy crappies harvested this winter is more than I have ever witnessed.

My area around Twin Islands has slowed down in the mud, so I have shifted to my March game plan. I’m setting up my shacks in 22-28 feet of water, focusing on targeting quality walleye. Today, that plan has paid off with numerous shacks icing walleyes in the 15-19 inch range. As always, employ the tactic of aggressive jigging with a Buck-Shot Spoon or Rippin’ Rap to call fish into your area. This technique makes your set lines more productive on the days the walleyes just want any easy meal.

I recently had a family that were “active jiggers”. The two boys had a Vexilar with a weak battery, but still kept jigging with spoons. In 2 days, they iced over 40 keepers and some of those fish were caught old school style…no electronics, just persistent jigging. Good luck!
